The Ghost Mine claims
The detectives pass around the sketch and compare it with the torn map they found in the Shaman's rattle.
"Ghost Mine has a main entrance and one main tunnel. Each claim is a small work tunnel off the main one, usually with another exit on the mountain." |
|
"Look, the Morgan brothers' tunnels have places for sleeping and eating. Cool!" |
|
"The miners helped each other in the old days. They laid rail tracks along the main tunnel so everyone could use the ore trucks. They looked out for each other – but if a dispute happened, they could shut off their own tunnels until it was resolved." |

"Did Jeremiah have a claim?" |
|
"Yeah - probably one of those unexplored tunnels. We don't know which one, and we haven't found any more entrances on the mountain yet - they're well hidden."

"The sentence on the map could be a clue. And Jeremiah's letter. He says he made marks to help us, and we should follow them carefully." |
The detectives are surprised when suddenly Laura starts to cry. Megan puts her arm around her cousin’s shoulders, asking her what’s wrong.
Laura wipes her eyes and blows her nose. The others wait a few minutes until she feels like talking again.
A few minutes later, they set off for Smokey's Joe's diner with Laura driving the hire car.
