Ghost Mine Episode 11

Rocky cave-in

Further on they are forced to stop again.

Part of the tunnel has collapsed, blocking their path.

They shine their flashlights up, down and around the rock pile.

 

 

	“More rocks. This is boring!”
	“Can we pull a few out of the way and get through somehow?”
	“We can try. Ben help me – everyone else stand back. We don’t know how secure the roof is or how far along the tunnel these fallen rocks go.”

Linda, Megs and Laura move back but shine their flashlights to help the boys. Slowly Brad and Ben lift and slide some of the larger rocks away from the main pile.

Then they move smaller rocks to make a gap near the top. Finally Brad crawls along under the roof checking the wooden supports where rocks were piled against them.

After what seems like ages to the girls, Brad and Ben climb back down to them. They are hot and dirty and Brad’s T-shirt is torn.

	“I think it’s safe. Most of the roof supports are still in place. We should be able to climb up, squeeze through the gap and get down the other side.”
	“One at a time though. Wait until the person in front is through before you move. Only one of us should be climbing at a time. We don’t know how much weight this lot will stand.”
	“I’ll go first, then Laura, Linda, Ben and Megs last. Stand back until it’s your turn, and if the rocks start to move, get out of the way.”

The others watch while Brad climbs up slowly and carefully and disappears through the gap near the roof. They hear him climbing down the other side, and are relieved when he calls out that he’s arrived.

Ben helps Laura as she climbs and Brad helps her down the other side. The boys repeat the process with Linda, and then Ben climbs up, leaving Megs alone. Everyone is quiet and the sound of Ben scrabbling down to join the others seems loud to her.

Megs moves forward to start her climb and is suddenly grabbed from behind.

A large, rough hand clamps over her mouth and a powerful arm lifts her off the ground and drags her backwards.

She drops her flashlight, struggling and screaming.
