Inside Jeremiah's mine
Brad, Ben and Megs struggle to their feet, covered in dust and dirt.
They all stare into the opening.
Sunlight filters through the overhanging rocks above and into the inky blackness of the mine entrance.
Linda makes a sound like a growl, then picks up her backpack and rummages in it for her flashlight. The others do the same and then wait for Brad to take the lead. He squeezes through the rocky doorway and the others follow.
The light is faint on the other side and they turn on their flashlights.
They stand still while their eyes adjust, then see they are in a tunnel which slopes gently downwards into the earth.
The sides and roof are supported with wooden beams. Black shadows dance everywhere as they shine their flashlights around, and the air is heavy and stale.
Brad moves forward and they follow, slowly and quietly. They are excited to be in Jeremiah’s mine at last, but scared of what they might find.
