Sustainability - The 4Rs - Recycling is not always Possible
Not all things can be recycled.
This is because sometimes:
- More resources would be used in the recycling than would be saved.
- There is no factory to recycle the material.
- There is not enough of the material or items to supply to a factory, so the factory can’t work.
- An item is made from several materials, which can’t be separated.
- Too much energy is needed to collect items, for example in remote country areas.
Sometimes, if a product or item can’t be recycled in your area, you could try buying a slightly different item made from materials that can be recycled.
If you can’t recycle things in your community or area, the best thing to do is reduce the amount of waste you make, and try to re-use as many things as you can.
