Sustainability - The 4Rs - Recycling
Set up a Recycling Program at School
What do you think your school could do to set up a recycling program?
Here are some ideas:
- Put containers in classrooms with labels like “clean white paper to be re-used”, “aluminium cans”, “plastic bottles”. Work out how to empty the containers regularly and take the stuff that’s been saved to a recycling point.
- Ask the school office to use recycled products like paper, stationery and plastic containers.
- Ask teachers to write messages for each other on a whiteboard instead of using sheets of paper.
- Ask students to reduce their waste. Hold an event for the whole school like a “rubbish-free lunch” (“garbage-free lunch”).
- Hold a competition to get more recycling ideas from other students.
- Write a school policy for recycling, so it becomes easy (decide what things your school can do, then write out how these things should be done).
