The Deputy Sheriff calls
No one is able to sleep much for the rest of the night.
At seven o’clock Megan and Laura hear knocking at the front door and Jean talking with the Deputy Sherriff.
Minutes later Jean asks Megs to come downstairs. Wayne Brooks and Jean are drinking coffee in the kitchen.

“Hello, Megan. I didn’t expect to see you again so soon. How’re your feet doing?” |

“I’ve been doing some checking since we last met. I was with the FBI before joining Barstow police. I still have contacts in Australia and they’ve told me you and your friends are sort of private detectives. So tell me what’s really going on.” |
Megan looks at Aunt Jean, unsure what to say or do.

“Wayne is a long-time friend. You should tell him everything Megan.” |

Megs tells him about Laura finding the box with the artifacts and Jeremiah’s letter, and that there may be treasure in Jeremiah’s mine. She explains how important it is to find it so they can prove Jeremiah wasn’t involved in robbery or murder years ago.
