Laura, Brad, Ben and Linda rush over to Megan, shouting and laughing. Linda hugs her tight, crying again.

	“It’s okay Linda, I’m alright. Joe rescued me. He’s on our side – we just didn’t know it.”
	“Is Bud dead?”
	“I don’t know. We should check. Stay here everyone, you too Elmore.”
	“Hello Joe. I’m sorry Megan. I didn’t want to hurt you, or leave you with the rats.”
	“It’s okay Elmore, I understand.”

Carefully Brad and Joe walk over to the hole in the floor and shine their flashlights inside.

 

 

	“There he is. The hole isn’t that deep. Looks like he’s broken a leg and knocked himself out. He’s not going anywhere for a while.”
	“Should we go and fetch Deputy Sheriff Wayne Brooks to arrest him?”
	“No, not yet. Let’s see if we can find what we all came for.”
	“Look! Here’s the map piece on the floor. Bud must have dropped it!”
	“Give it to me. I’m trying to remember what it said. Okay – we need to walk around the edge of the cavern, to the right.”
	“I’ll go first. Keep your distance in case there’s another trap.”

Joe leads the way and the others follow in single file. They concentrate on the floor in front of them and hold their breath as they pass by the hole.

Joe calls a halt at the back wall of the cavern. Under the sloping roof of one of the arches is an old box on a rotting wooden platform. Joe stands back so the others can get a closer look.
