Animal Facts - Sun Bear
Sun Bear Habitat
Sun Bears live in tropical rainforests in several countries in Southeast Asia, including:
- The Malay Peninsula
- Cambodia
- Thailand
- Vietnam
- Laos
- Myanmar (Burma)
- The islands of Borneo and Sumatra.
Scientists think they also live in Southern China, with smaller numbers in India and Bangladesh.
The smallest Sun Bears live in Borneo and some scientists think they are a sub-species.
Sun Bears spend most of their time in trees, in the mountain rainforests inland and on the rolling green hills nearer the coast.
They break off branches and make resting platforms high up in the trees where they lie in the sun during the day. At night they climb down and forage for food (collect food) on the ground.
