Rock slide
It’s hard work climbing up the steep sloop of Lookout Mountain. Shale and rocks slide under their sneakers and the sun beats down relentlessly. They plod on, lost in their own thoughts.
Linda thinks the sky is bluer here in California than in Australia, and that some of the rock formations around here are weird. Ben notices plants that look dead, clinging to the rocks and wonders if they are tumbleweeds.
Brad keeps his eyes on the next peak ahead of them, climbing slowly to conserve energy. He calculates how much longer it will take them to get to the top.
Megan stops from time to time to drink water, aware of the silence. After a while, she sees a few stones shake loose above her. She feels the ground vibrate and hears rumbling. Rocks are sliding down the mountain and she and Brad are in their path.
