Rescue
Lying on the floor, alone in the dark, Megs cries until she has no tears left. She is worried about her friends and there are even more rats now, scuffling and squeaking around her.
She kicks out with her bound feet each time she hears one of the horrible creatures coming close.
Suddenly she is aware of someone else nearby. She stares through the inky blackness and strains her ears but can’t see or hear anything. The hairs on the back of her neck stand up and goosebumps break out on her bare arms. Someone is standing next to her, staring down at her.

“You’re having a bad day, aren’t you Megan?” |

“Yes, it's me.” |
He touches her ankle in the dark and she jumps.
Joe puts his arm around Megs’ waist to help her move along. She puts a hand up to feel his face and touches something metallic. Joe laughs.
“That's my Indian magic. Night vision glasses. Come on.” |
Together they move off down the tunnel. Megs clings to Joe to help her legs balance.
She feels brave again with him there.
