Develop skills that a detective needs

Ben talking with people by emailDetectives need to be good at:

  • Doing research and analysing what you find out
  • Observing - noticing things that other people don't see
  • Being patient
  • Solving problems
  • Taking care of details
  • Remembering things and cross checking things in your mind
  • Communicating with people - explaining your ideas, talking with people and asking questions
  • Writing notes and reports.

People who are good at being a detective are usually calm and curious. They are able to motivate themselves (start or keep going on something without being encouraged by someone else). Most detectives also want to help people.

You can set yourself some goals and practice these skills as part of your everyday tasks.
