Sustainability Unit of Work (Activities) and CDs

The Sustainability units of work are based on the enquiry learning process. They incorporate a range of forms - including analysis, problem solving, discovery and creative activities – and can be used in the classroom and in the community. The units fit into a number of teaching styles and lend themselves to student directed learning.

There are two sets of units, designed for different age ranges, covering the following subjects.

Students ages 7 - 11: primary/elementary:

Sustainability
Energy
Waste and recycling
Air and pollution
Water
Biodiversity.

Students ages 9 - 13: upper primary/elementary and lower middle years:

Sustainability
Energy
Waste and recycling
Water
Biodiversity
Agriculture and land management.

Content of an example unit (number of activities varies per unit):

Introduction - 8 activities
Scene Setters – 5 activities
Identify issues – 7 activities
Investigation – 2 activities
What can we do? – 3 activities
Let’s do it – 2 activities
Additional activities – 5

Programs on CD

Two programs about Sustainability are available on CD:

Ollie Saves the Planet (for students ages 7 - 11)
Ollie's Island (for students ages 9 - 13)

Ollie's Island Ollie Saves the Planet These Programs have been developed as classroom resources, tools for community education and stand-alone entertainment to be used at home.

They contain activities, games and info-screens which can be navigated by students at their own pace, or as directed to take a specific path within a subject area.
